Cooper at Connor's 1st birthday party

A couple of weekends ago we went to the birthday party for Connor, the son of Val's cousin, Josh, and his wife, Cathy.

Penny at 5 months

She is ever so precious!

Despite giving him her "look," Cooper is a very good big brother!

Cooper has a good time with his bath crayons. Don't make fun of Daddy's drawings; it's not easy drawing on a wall while reaching across the tub!

All dressed up for church!

What Michelle Obama Hath Wrought

Welcome to our new country where the government inspects the homemade lunch you gave your kid for school, and makes you pay when they deem it unworthy:
A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because the school told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the person who was inspecting all lunch boxes in the More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs - including in-home day care centers - to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.
James Lileks said on this: "I’m trying to think of a situation in which it’s permissible for a government official - not a school employee, even, but someone representing an agency outside the school - ask my daughter what she had for breakfast, then send me a letter informing me I have fed her the wrong thing, and must correct my ways."

Don't make him break out his wand

Daniel Radcliffe is a little peeved that Harry Potter's not getting any Oscar love (zero so far, nominated for three this year in technical categories):
"I don't think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids' films, unless they're directed by Martin Scorsese," Radcliffe told the Radio Times (via British newspaper the Guardian). "I was watching 'Hugo' the other day and going, 'Why is this nominated and we're not?' I was slightly miffed. ... There's a certain amount of snobbery. It's kind of disheartening. I never thought I'd care. But it would've been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in."
Sounds like someone's ready to join the Dark Arts for sweet sweet revenge!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I was just re-reading my blog posts on our first Valentine's Day (here and here), and got a nice smile. Can you believe it's been five years?

To my Darling Valerie, though I may be more dedicated to sliding into bed lately after a day of work and fun with the kiddies than showing you the affection you deserve or getting any better at reading your complex and delicious mind than I was 5 years ago, I will never be ashamed to say that I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH!

Cooper's toybox box

One of my Dad's Christmas presents was for Cooper's new toybox. As you can tell, Cooper also quite enjoyed the box it came in. Mommy too ...

Penny's got some strong legs, she loves to stand up on Daddy!

Cooper and Penny's Super Bowl XLVI Party

13 adults. 13 kids. One big, loud party! That's how our Sunday School social went for the Super Bowl on Sunday night. Our class is so big and we all have young kids, so we split up into two groups. Val and I went up to Atoka to the Evans' home, where Cooper had a great time playing monster trucks and Penny was held by every woman there.

Here's Cooper and Rachel playing with Cole Evans' trucks ...

Patty loves to get some Penny time. Unfortunately it never lasted long; for some reason Penny would cry after a minute or two unless Mommy and Daddy held her ...

Upstairs in Carly Evans' room, like looking into Penny's future ...

Angela with Penny ...

Trucks! Trucks! Trucks! Race!

Jeff's NFL Predictions In Review

Let's just say that I could have done better, but I wasn't that bad, especially in the AFC ...
AFC EAST PICKS: New England, NY Jets, Miami, Buffalo.
ACTUAL: NE, Jets, Miami, Buffalo ... Spot on! And the Jets didn't make the playoffs, so bonus!
AFC SOUTH PICKS: Indy, Houston, Tennessee, Jacksonville.
ACTUAL: Houston, Tennessee, Jax, Indy ... OK, so I didn't expect Peyton to stay out all season. Whoopsie.
AFC NORTH PICKS: Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati.
ACTUAL: Baltimore, Pitt, Cincy, Cleveland ... Ravens had some bad games, but overall won when they needed it
AFC WEST PICKS: San Diego, Denver, Kansas City, Oakland.
ACTUAL: Denver, SD, Oakland, KC ... TEEBBOOWWWW!!!!!
WILD CARD PICKS: Jets, Pittsburgh.
ACTUAL: Pittsburgh and Cincy. Bengals better than I would have imagined.
AFC CHAMPIONSHIP PICK: New England over Baltimore.
ACTUAL: Bingo Bango, called it!
NFC EAST PICKS: Philadelphia, NY Giants, Dallas, Washington.
ACTUAL:  Giants, Philly, Cowgirls, Washington  ... Just remember, if the Cowboys had won just one of those games that they blew in the fourth quarter, the Giants might not have even have been in the playoffs.
NFC SOUTH PICKS: New Orleans, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Carolina.
ACTUAL: N'awlins, ATL, Carolina, TB ... Actually enjoyed Panthers' surprising six-win season with Cam Newton as my rookie fantasy QB (backing up Aaron Rodgers, which is why I won my keeper league title for the first time in our 11 year history).
NFC NORTH PICKS: Green Bay, Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota.
ACTUAL: GB, Detroit, Da Bears, Vikes ... I said that Detroit could surprise based on the spirit they showed in the preseason, and except for Suh doing everything but pull a gun on QBs, I was right!
NFC WEST PICKS: St. Louis, Arizona, Seattle, San Francisco.
ACTUAL: San Fran, 'Zona, Seattle, St. Louis ... My worst pick ever. The 49ers dominated, enough to win 13 games and earn the second seed in the playoffs.
WILD CARD PICKS: Atlanta, Giants.
ACTUAL: Atlanta, Detroit ... Lions QB-WR combo of Stafford-to-Johnson is awesome. Guy who won our Sunday School fantasy league used them to win all of his playoff matches by 50 points or more.
NFC CHAMPIONSHIP PICK: Green Bay over Philly.
ACTUAL: Giants won at San Francisco. In Eli we trust, I guess.
SUPER BOWL PICK: New England over Green Bay.
ACTUAL: Giants over Patriots. Thought the Patriots had that fire to win the whole thing this year.
